Saudi Arabia has been officially announced as the host country of the 2034 FIFA World Cup by world football’s governing body.

With this announcement, human rights groups have warned that it will have to bear an unimaginable human cost.

Morocco, Spain and Portugal have also been named as co-hosts of the 2030 World Cup.

According to foreign reports, there were only two bids for the 2030 and 2034 World Cups.

According to a joint proposal by Morocco, Spain and Portugal, Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay will hold celebrations to mark the centenary of the tournament across three continents and six countries in 2030.

Saudi Arabia will be the second Middle Eastern country to host the tournament, after Qatar hosted it in 2022.

The 2034 edition is special because it will be the first time a 48-team tournament will be held in a single host country.

Accordingly, matches will be held across 15 stadiums in five host cities in Saudi Arabia. These will be Riyadh, Jeddah, Al Khobar, Abha and Neom.

The King Salman Stadium in Riyadh, with a capacity of 92,000 spectators, is expected to be used for the opening and final matches once it is built.
