Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has announced significant changes to its Constitution following an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) on Friday (December 20), including a considerable drop in the overall number of voting members from 147 to 60.
The modifications underline the SLC’s commitment to promoting good governance, openness, diversity, and efficiency in its management structure, according to a statement.
The new voting mechanism guarantees that voting rights are decided exclusively by the quality of cricket played by each member club, with all eligible clubs and associations receiving a single vote. This is a critical step toward equal representation and efficient decision-making.
Furthermore, to increase transparency in financial management, the membership unanimously authorized the formation of the Audit Committee, Investment and Budget Committee, and Related Party Transactions Committee, according to the statement.
This historic step is designed to level the playing field for cricket stakeholders, ensuring that representation within the SLC reflects quality and contribution to the growth of cricket throughout the country.
The SLC thinks that these constitutional modifications would develop a culture of professionalism, transparency, and meritocracy, opening the path for the overall growth of cricket in Sri Lanka.
In addition to the aforementioned modifications, the Extraordinary General Meeting appointed the Election Committee for SLC for the year 2025, which is chaired by former Court of Appeal Judge Ms. Malanie Gunaratne and includes four further members.
The election committee will oversee the preparations and conduct the SLC’s future elections, which are set to take place in 2025.
