The Indian Premier League is set to begin in two days, and Mahela Jayawardene-led Mumbai Indians will be without regular captain Hardik Pandya for their first match.
Mumbai will play their first match of the season against Chennai Super Kings on the 23rd in Chennai, with Suryakumar Yadav leading the team.
Pandya will miss the match due to a ban imposed after Mumbai’s final match in the IPL last year (2024).
Mumbai had failed to complete their 20 overs in the allotted time in the match against Lucknow Supergiant that year, the third time Mumbai had committed the offence in that tournament. As a result, captain Pandya was fined INR 30 lakh (Sri Lankan Rupees 102 lakh) and was also given a one-match ban.
