
Health and Mass Media Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa on Tuesday visited the National Hospital of Sri Lanka to inquire into the condition of prison officers and inmates injured in the recent violence at Negombo Prison.
The Minister met injured prison officers and inmates receiving treatment at Wards 72 and 79, as well as the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and discussed their medical condition and the treatment being provided.
He also held discussions with hospital administrators, doctors, nursing staff and prison officials on ongoing treatment, urgent requirements and other support services for the injured.
According to the Ministry, a total of 29 people injured in the Negombo Prison violence are currently receiving inpatient treatment at the National Hospital. They include 15 prison officers and 14 inmates.
Of those being treated, 12 patients remain in intensive care units, the Ministry added.
