A total of 16 individuals have been arrested by the Homagama Police Traffic Division, along with 16 motorcycles that had been illegally modified from their original condition.
The arrests were made during raids carried out by officials attached to the Homagama Police Traffic Division at several locations in the Homagama area, targeting motorcycles being ridden at excessive speeds and generating excessive noise.
Police said the motorcycles taken into custody had various unauthorised modifications, including altered silencers, removal of side mirrors and mudguards, absence of number plates, and changes to lighting systems.
The motorcycles have been taken into police custody to be handed over to the Vehicle Inspector of the Department of Motor Traffic for examination.
The arrested riders have been released on bail and are scheduled to be produced before the Homagama Magistrate’s Court on July 22.
Homagama Headquarters Police Traffic Division is conducting further investigations into the incident.
