Sri Lanka Returns Home as Runner-up in South Asian Junior Athletics with 40 Medals

KATUNAYAKE, Sri Lanka — The triumphant Sri Lankan contingent that secured the Runner-up position at the 4th South Asian Junior Athletics Championships arrived back at the Katunayake International Airport this morning (October 28th) to a warm official welcome.

The team’s performance at the championships, held in Ranchi, India, from October 24th to 26th, was exceptional, showcasing the strength of the nation's young athletic talent.

Sri Lanka clinched an impressive total of 40 medals across the three-day event, details of which are as follows:

• Gold Medals: 16
• Silver Medals: 14
• Bronze Medals: 10
• Total Medals: 40

The championships featured the participation of athletes from various countries across the South Asian region.

The team was greeted at the airport by a large welcoming party, including Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Sunil Kumara Gamage, high-ranking officials representing the sports divisions of the tri-forces, dedicated school teachers, and the proud parents of the successful young athletes. The enthusiastic reception marked a fitting tribute to the athletes' achievements on the regional stage.
