Committee appointed to update prison regulations and standing orders holds first meeting

The first meeting of the special committee appointed to update the regulations and standing orders made under the Prisons Ordinance, as decided at the discussion held on October 08 between President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and the Maha Sangha representing the three Nikayas, was held at the Presidential Secretariat.

Minister of Justice and National Integration, Attorney-at-Law Harshana Nanayakkara, provided policy guidance to the committee, the President’s Media Division (PMD) said in a statement.

The meeting held yesterday afternoon (09) was attended by the Chairman of the Committee and Secretary of the Ministry of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs Prince Senadheera, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Justice and National Integration Piyumanthi Peiris, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government Wasantha Ariyarathna, Commissioner-General of Buddhist Affairs R.M.G. Senarathna and A.C. Gajanayake, a Commissioner of the Department of Prisons.
