The Colombo High Court ordered that the corruption case filed by the Bribery Commission against former Minister of Women and Child Affairs Chandrani Bandara be recalled on March 05.
The case was called before High Court Judge Ravindra Premaratne. During the proceedings, President’s Counsel Nalin Ladduwahetty, representing the former minister, raised preliminary objections regarding the prosecution's move to amend the indictments filed against her.
After considering the submissions, the judge scheduled the next hearing for early March.
The Bribery Commission has filed these indictments alleging that "corruption" was committed between January 14 and January 31, 2019.
The former minister is accused of failing to follow proper procedures in appointing an individual named H.M. Chandrawansa as the Project Director of the Ministry of Dry Zone Development.
Furthermore, she is charged with exerting undue influence on the Ministry Secretary and other officials to unlawfully appoint several of her associates to various other positions within the ministry.
