COLOMBO — A total of 1,870 people have died in 1,757 fatal road accidents between January 1 and September 4 of this year, police said.
Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the Traffic Division, Indika Hapugoda, shared these grim statistics at a press conference today (08).
"On average, seven to eight people lose their lives in fatal road accidents every day," Hapugoda said. He emphasized that all road users, including drivers, riders, pedestrians, and passengers, must abide by traffic laws and signals and exercise self-discipline to prevent further casualties.
