
A committee led by the Deputy Minister of Defence, retired Major General Aruna Jayasekara, conducted an inspection tour today (12) of the Disaster Relief Service warehouse complex located at Orugodawatta.
The inspection comes as the systematic distribution of foreign aid, donated to assist the public affected by adverse weather conditions, is currently underway through the Orugodawatta facility. Consignments of relief items from overseas continued to arrive in the country yesterday (11) for distribution to the affected population.
In a notable gesture, a group of Colombo-based diplomats made a personal financial donation of Rs. 3.6 million towards the government’s Rebuilding Sri Lanka fund, aimed at providing relief to those impacted by Cyclone Ditwah. The cheque was handed over to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism, Hon. Vijith Herath, at the Ministry.
Meanwhile, the French government has expressed its readiness to provide full support necessary for the country’s recovery following the disaster. The French Ambassador to Sri Lanka, H.E. Remi Lambert, affirmed France's readiness to extend assistance across several sectors to strengthen the friendship between the two nations, during a meeting with the Minister of Labour and Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning, Dr. Anil Jayanth, yesterday.
