Ex-President Ranil’s security officer assaulted by cameraman outside court

A cameraman attached to a private media organization has allegedly assaulted a security officer attached to former President Ranil Wickremesinghe outside the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court premises today (30) after the conclusion of a case filed against the ex-President by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

The incident reportedly took place near the entrance to the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court as former President Wickremesinghe was leaving the premises accompanied by his security officers.

The security officer in question, who was on duty providing protection to former President Wickremesinghe at the time of the incident, has reportedly lodged a complaint with the police and was subsequently admitted to hospital for treatment.

Footage recorded by several other media personnel present at the scene clearly shows the cameraman striking the security officer on the head with his camera.
