Former Colombo Municipal Councillor Mahinda Kahandagama, who represents the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), has been remanded until October 26 after being produced before the Nugegoda Magistrate’s Court.
He was presented to court after the Central Crime Investigation Bureau (CCIB) was permitted to detain and question Kahandagama until today.
Kahandagama and another individual were arrested by the CCIB on October 05 over allegations of involvement in drug trafficking activities, police said.
According to police, Kahandagama was arrested near a restaurant in Mirihana while a quantity of crystal methamphetamine, commonly known as “Ice,” was also seized from the suspects.
Preliminary investigations have reportedly indicated that Kahandagama had allegedly been involved in drug trafficking for some time. The second suspect is also alleged to have been connected to these activities.
