Gampaha: A 46-year-old woman was arrested by Gampaha Police after a high-speed pursuit following a dramatic incident where she allegedly obstructed police duty and drove away, falsely claiming to be the sister of Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police (SDIG) Ranmal Kodithuwakku.
The incident, footage of which quickly circulated across social media platforms yesterday (October 31st), began on the Kotugoda-Udugampola road. Traffic police attempted to stop the vehicle driven by the woman, a resident of Dematagoda, for a traffic offense.
According to the Gampaha Police, the driver initially refused to stop her car. When officers eventually caught up and halted the vehicle in the Udugampola area for inspection, the woman allegedly became aggressive and belligerent, claiming to be a relative of SDIG Kodithuwakku to intimidate the officers.
Ignoring repeated police commands, the suspect then drove off again. The police pursued the vehicle and finally managed to stop the car at the Polwatta Junction within the Minuwangoda Police Division, where the woman was taken into custody.
Upon formal questioning at the Gampaha Police Station, investigators quickly confirmed that the woman has no family or kinship connection whatsoever to the Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police. Her claim was definitively categorized as false and an attempt to obstruct justice.
The suspect is set to be presented before the Gampaha Magistrate’s Court today (November 1st) facing multiple serious charges, including:
