The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) has announced that a 24-hour island-wide token strike will be launched from 8.00 a.m. tomorrow (31).
The GMOA has decided to launch the strike alleging that transfers have been carried out illegally and for political purposes, without any prior inquiry.
Speaking at a media briefing today (3), Assistant Secretary of the GMOA Dr. Hansamal Weerasuriya stated that a list has now been prepared for the transfers, which had never been done by previous administrations.
He further announced that, in protest of these transfers, a token strike will be launched tomorrow.
Dr. Weerasuriya added that authorities have time until tomorrow morning to intervene and prevent the strike from going ahead as planned.
He also assured that emergency treatments will continue to be provided as usual at hospitals despite the token strike.
