India clinched a record-extending sixth ICC Under-19 World Cup title today (06) after beating England by 100 runs at the Harare Sports Club.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi ran the show for India, hitting a blistering 80-ball 175 after India won the toss and opted to bat. With a 51-ball 53 from Ayush Mhatre, Suryavanshi’s knock catapulted India to 411 for nine in 50 overs.
Up against a mammoth total, England started well courtesy of a fifty from opener Ben Dawkins. Thomas Rew and Ben Mayes provided brisk cameos too but England caved in to the scoreboard pressure.
A middle-order slump reduced the side to 177 for seven from 174 for three, which ultimately led to the huge loss. Caleb Falconer resisted with his 115 off 67 balls but the ask was too stiff in the end. England folded for 311, handing India a 100-run victory.
