The Strait of Hormuz has been "completely closed," according to Iran's state-run broadcaster quoting the country's central command.
Press TV reported the statement on Thursday, which was issued by the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters.
The statement said the Strait of Hormuz has been declared closed to all vessels, including oil tankers and commercial ships. It adds any attempted passage will be targeted.
The statement added the closure comes in response to what it calls "continued hostile actions by the United States," including its attacks on a southern Iranian province.
