Alleged underworld figure Ranjith Kumara, alias “Konda Ranji,” who was deported from Dubai to Sri Lanka, has been taken to the Western Province North Crime Division in Peliyagoda for further investigations.
Kumara was initially arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) shortly after arriving at Bandaranaike International Airport at around 7.50 a.m. today (9).
Following his arrest, he was handed over to the Western Province North Crime Division, where further investigations are being conducted into his alleged involvement in organised criminal activities and several other criminal cases.
According to police, Kumara had been arrested by Dubai authorities on January 9 while allegedly attempting to flee to Italy. His wife and children, who were detained along with him at the time, were subsequently released.
Sri Lankan authorities allege that Kumara is linked to organised criminal activities and is wanted in connection with several criminal investigations.
He is also reportedly wanted over the murder of the coordinating secretary to former Minister Mangala Samaraweera.
The Western Province North Crime Division is expected to conduct further inquiries into the allegations against Kumara before he is produced before court.
Kumara is among several Sri Lankan underworld figures who have been arrested by authorities in Dubai and subsequently deported to Sri Lanka.
