‘Matter of immense joy’ that Saudi Supreme Court overturned Anojan’s death sentence – Sajith

Sri Lanka’s Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa says it is a matter of immense joy to learn that the Supreme Court of Saudi Arabia has taken steps to overturn the death sentence imposed on Sri Lankan national Anojan Sivarasa, who was sentenced to death by a Saudi court.

Premadasa expressed his utmost respect and gratitude to the legal team led by President’s Counsel Faiszer Musthapha and President’s Counsel Upul Kumarapperuma, who dedicated their time and money to travel to Saudi Arabia and play a pivotal role in securing Mr. Sivarasa’s freedom.

The Opposition Leader also said it is a great pleasure that he was also able to contribute in some measure toward his release.

“Our respect and appreciation go out to all the officials who dedicated themselves to this endeavor, as well as to the Supreme Court and the King of Saudi Arabia,” he said in a social media post.
