MP Ashoka Ranwala Arrested; Under Police Guard at National Hospital After Traffic Collision Injuring Infant and Two Others.

Former Speaker of Parliament and National People's Power (NPP) Member of Parliament, Ashoka Ranwala, has been arrested following a traffic collision that occurred yesterday (11) in the Sapugaskanda area.

The MP was arrested by the Sapugaskanda Police on charges of dangerous driving and failing to prevent an accident.

Police sources indicated that the Parliamentarian is currently receiving in-patient treatment under police protection at the Colombo National Hospital.

Details of the Incident

The incident occurred yesterday (11) when the jeep driven by the former Speaker collided with another motor car in the Denimala area of Sapugaskanda.

The occupants of the motor car sustained injuries and were hospitalized. They include:

• A 25-year-old woman.
• Her six-month-old infant daughter.
• A 55-year-old grandmother.

Police stated that the infant was subsequently transferred for specialized treatment to the Lady Ridgeway Hospital for Children.
