Satyagraha seeking Gnanasara Thero’s release continues at Viharamahadevi Park

A satyagraha launched by a group of Buddhist monks at the Viharamahadevi Park in Colombo, calling for the release of Venerable Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thero, is taking place for the 10th consecutive day today (25).

The protest began on October 16, when the monks arrived at the Viharamahadevi Park.

The monks participating in the satyagraha have stated that they will not leave the site until Venerable Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thero is released.

On October 16, the group initially gathered outside the Presidential Secretariat before proceeding to the Ministry of Buddhasasana, where they held discussions with the ministry’s secretary.

However, describing the discussions as unsuccessful, the monks subsequently announced that they would remain at the Viharamahadevi Park until a solution was provided to their demands.
