Opening doors to new trade opportunities and international partnerships for countries worldwide, the 9th China International Import Expo (CIIE) commenced in Shanghai, China.
A highlighted aspect of this year's expo is the broad international participation, spanning from developed nations to least developed countries.
Accordingly, over 4,000 foreign exhibitors from around the world are participating in this year's event. Among them are over 300 companies from the Fortune Global 500 list of leading global enterprises and industry leaders.
Additionally, a prominent highlight of this edition is the debut of nearly 500 new products and exhibition features in the global, Asian, or Chinese markets for the first time.
Nearly 70 countries and international organizations are participating in the national exhibition section this year. A notable highlight is the first-time participation of Moldova, Romania, and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
Sri Lanka holds a special position at this year's expo, having been named an honored guest nation alongside Canada. This marks the very first time Sri Lanka has received this honor. Consequently, the Sri Lankan National Pavilion was officially declared open this afternoon.
Renowned Sri Lankan products, including Ceylon tea, blue sapphires, spices, cashews, and traditional handicrafts, are featured at the exhibition.
Launched in 2018, the China International Import Expo is regarded as the world's first national-level expo focused on imports.
By strengthening international trade ties and offering countries worldwide new avenues to access the Chinese market, this expo has become a key platform promoting China's high-level economic openness.
For Sri Lanka in particular, this is expected to serve as a vital international opportunity to expand its exports and attract new investments.
