DIVULAPITIYA – A man who was lodged in a hotel room in the Divulapitiya Old Junction area has been found dead, according to a report lodged by the hotel owner with the Divulapitiya Police Station.
Following the telephone call, officers from the Crime Division visited the hotel and inspected the room. During the search, officers successfully recovered close to two grams of heroin, along with fragments resembling lead and a lighter typically used for heating narcotics.
Further inspection of the room allowed the Police to identify the deceased as a 26-year-old youth from Anuradhapura. Police suspect that the death may be connected to drug use.
The OIC of the Crime Division at the Divulapitiya Police Station, Mr. Hemal Liyanage, stated that investigations have so far revealed that the deceased was a person severely addicted to drugs.
The Acting Magistrate of the Minuwangoda Court, Mr. Mangala Warna Kulasuriya, visited the scene and conducted the Magistrate’s inquiry. Following the inquiry, the Magistrate ordered the Divulapitiya Police to transfer the body to the Gampaha District Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
The Magistrate instructed the Police to release the body to the next of kin after the completion of the post-mortem. Divulapitiya Police confirmed that the post-mortem procedures are scheduled to be carried out at the Gampaha District Hospital.
