
Two Arpico Super outlets in Kottawa and Homagama have been fined a total of Rs. 125,000 after expired beverages were found displayed for sale, the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) said.
The cases were filed against Richard Pieris Distributors following separate inspections conducted by CAA investigation officers.
The Arpico Super outlet in Kottawa was fined Rs. 75,000 after 200 ml Nil Katarolu beverage bottles, which had expired on May 9, 2026, were found displayed for sale alongside other products.
The Arpico Super Center on Avissawella Road in Homagama was fined Rs. 50,000 after one-litre soft drink packs that had expired on April 12, 2026, were found displayed for sale in a manner the CAA said could mislead consumers.
The cases were taken up before the Homagama Magistrate’s Court on September 10, where the defendant company pleaded guilty to the charges.
The CAA urged consumers to check expiry and manufacturing dates when purchasing products, including from supermarkets.
Consumers can report similar violations to the CAA through its 1977 hotline during office hours.
