The United National Party was surprised to see President Anura Kumara Dissanayake extend personal congratulations to the recently elected Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, C. Joseph Vijay. As a Head of State, protocol states that such congratulatory messages should be reserved for another Head of State and not for foreign Provincial/State leaders
The UNP further questions why President Dissanayake has not extended a similar congratulatory message to the newly elected West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari or Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
