
The Sri Lanka U19 team secured a dominant 203-run victory over Japan in their preliminary round match of the U19 World Cup.
Invited to bat first after Japan won the toss, the Sri Lankan team posted a massive total of 387/4 in their allotted 50 overs. The innings was powered by a historic performance from the openers, with Viran Chamuditha smashing 192 runs and Dimantha Mahavithana scoring 115 runs.
In pursuit of a daunting target of 388, Japan managed to score only 184 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in their 50 overs. Despite the heavy defeat, Hugo Kelly fought a lonely battle for Japan, remaining unbeaten on 101 runs.
With this clinical victory, Sri Lanka has moved to the top of Group A.
