Watch: Deshabandu Tennakoon Remanded as Anticipatory Bail Bid Fails

(Colombo) Colombo Fort Magistrate's Court today (21) afternoon ordered the remand of former IGP Deshabandu Tennakoon, who was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department, until the 27th. Colombo Fort Magistrate Nilupuli Lankapura issued the order after considering the facts presented by the Criminal Investigation Department and the lawyers for the defense.

Deshabandu Tennakoon was arrested yesterday (20) afternoon at his residence in Hokandara.

He was arrested in connection with the failure to issue proper orders to prevent the attack on the Galle Face Aragalaya protest site on May 9, 2022.

In this regard, he had also filed an anticipatory bail application before the Fort Magistrate's Court, requesting to be released on anticipatory bail to prevent his arrest.

However, the said anticipatory bail application was rejected by Fort Magistrate Nilupuli Lankapura yesterday morning.(NewsCenter)
