Colombo: The Yogoda Satsanga Society of India (YSS) will conduct a special public lecture titled “Kriya Yoga: The Key to a Happy and Successful Life” in Colombo on Friday, June 5, 2026, offering participants an opportunity to learn meditation techniques and spiritual principles aimed at promoting inner peace, mental well-being, and personal growth.
The programme will be held from 5.30 p.m. to 7.30 p.m. at the Buddhist Cultural Centre (BCC), Colombo 05, and will be led by Swami Suddhananda Giri, a senior monk (sannyasi) of YSS who has spent decades sharing the teachings of Paramahansa Yogananda around the world. Open to people of all faiths and backgrounds, the lecture will focus on the practice of Kriya Yoga and its role in helping individuals manage stress, improve concentration, cultivate emotional resilience, and achieve a greater sense of balance and fulfillment in life. Organizers say the programme comes at a time when increasing numbers of people are seeking practical methods to cope with the pressures of modern life and improve their overall mental and emotional well-being. The event is expected to attract participants from across Sri Lanka who are interested in meditation, mindfulness, and spiritual development.
Founded in 1917 by Paramahansa Yogananda, the Yogoda Satsanga Society of India has spent more than a century promoting meditation and spiritual teachings. Yogananda, best known as the author of the internationally acclaimed Autobiography of a Yogi, introduced millions around the world to the principles of yoga and meditation through his writings and teachings.
Central to the upcoming programme is Kriya Yoga, an ancient meditation technique that Yogananda reintroduced to modern spiritual seekers. According to YSS, the practice provides a systematic approach to calming the mind, reducing stress, improving focus, and deepening spiritual awareness. The technique is non-sectarian and can be practised by individuals regardless of religious or cultural background. Following the public lecture, YSS monks will conduct a two-day meditation and spiritual learning programme on June 6 and 7, 2026, at the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre, High Commission of India, Colombo 07.
The weekend programme will provide participants with an introduction to meditation practices, insights into the teachings of Paramahansa Yogananda, and guidance on incorporating spiritual principles into daily life. Organizers say the sessions are designed to help participants develop practical tools for managing stress, enhancing mental focus, and fostering personal well-being. Both the public lecture and the meditation programme are free of charge and open to all.
