Colombo – The long-awaited renovation of the Pettah Central Bus Stand officially commenced this morning (September 15), with an inauguration ceremony graced by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
The project marks the first significant upgrade to the vital transport hub since its initial construction in 1964. The comprehensive renovation is estimated to cost Rs. 424 million and aims to modernize the aging facility to meet the needs of contemporary commuters.
As part of the overhaul, a range of modern facilities will be introduced to improve the passenger experience and overall infrastructure. These enhancements include the construction of new restrooms, the installation of modern information and communication stations, and the implementation of enhanced security systems.
For over six decades, the bus stand has been a cornerstone of Colombo's public transport network, and this project is set to transform it into a more comfortable, secure, and efficient facility for the thousands of people who use it daily. (NewsCenter)
