Colombo – The investigation into a large stock of chemicals discovered in Middeniya has taken a significant step forward, with a report from the National Dangerous Drugs Control Board (NDDCB) confirming the presence of methamphetamine. The findings have now been handed over to the Western Province North Crime Division for further in-depth analysis.
The chemicals were initially seized on suspicion of being intended for the production of the potent synthetic drug known as 'ICE'.
According to the NDDCB's report, initial laboratory tests revealed that a majority of the samples from the Middeniya seizure tested positive for methamphetamine. However, the report also included a crucial note stating that no precursor chemicals—the raw ingredients used to manufacture the drug—were found among the substances.
This development suggests the location may have been used for storing or processing the finished drug rather than for its initial creation. The Western Province North Crime Division will now lead the ongoing investigation, conducting further tests to determine the origin and intended distribution of the illicit narcotics. (NewsCenter)
