Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa arrived at the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption following a notice.
The appearance relates to an ongoing investigation regarding the purchase of Airbus aircraft for SriLankan Airlines.
The commission previously filed a case against the former Chief Executive Officer of the company, Kapila Chandrasena, who died under suspicious circumstances recently, over the alleged receipt of USD 2 million in bribes.
The Bribery Commission earlier informed the court that Kapila Chandrasena stated Rs. 60 million were given to former President Mahinda Rajapaksa on three occasions during this deal.
Consequently, the former President received notice to appear at the commission regarding the investigations into this incident.
Meanwhile, former Governor of the Southern Province, Willy Gamage, was also summoned to the Bribery Commission yesterday (11) to record a statement concerning the Airbus deal investigations.
