Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe has been summoned to appear before the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Friday (22). The summons is reportedly in connection with an investigation into a foreign trip he made during his presidency.
Former Speaker Karu Jayasuriya, Chairman of the Forum of Retired Members of Parliament, has requested the President to reconsider the government's decision to cut the pensions of former MPs.
The CID had previously recorded statements from Mr. Saman Ekanayake, who served as the President's Secretary during Mr. Wickremesinghe's presidency, and his private assistant, Mrs. Sandra Perera, regarding the matter.
The investigation is being conducted into Mr. Wickremesinghe's trip to England to attend a university graduation ceremony in London after an official visit to New York.
