Heavy rainfall expected in parts of the island

Due to a low-level atmospheric disturbance in the vicinity of Sri Lanka, cloudy skies are expected over the Western, Central, Sabaragamuwa, Southern and Uva provinces, with showers or thundershowers occurring at times, today (14), the Department of Meteorology said.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in other parts of the Island after 1.00 p.m.

Heavy rainfall above 100 mm are likely at some places in Western, Central, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, North-central and North-western provinces, it added.

The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
