The Department of Meteorology has warned that fairly heavy showers exceeding 75 mm are likely in several parts of Sri Lanka today (05), with showers and thundershowers expected across most parts of the island after 1.00 p.m.
Accordingly, heavy showers are expected in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Uva, North Western and Southern provinces and in the Polonnaruwa and Mannar districts.
Meanwhile, showers may occur in the Eastern coastal areas during the morning hours, the Met. Department stated.
Misty conditions are also expected at some areas in the Sabaragamuwa, Central and Uva provinces during the early hours of the morning.
The Met. Department urged the general public to take adequate precautions against possible damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
