Heavy traffic near Parliament amid SJB protest against 22A

Traffic congestion has been reported in areas surrounding Parliament and the Polduwa Junction near the Diyatha Uyana in Battaramulla, following a protest organised by the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) against the proposed 22nd Amendment to the Constitution.

The SJB had scheduled the protest and demonstration to commence at 9.00 a.m. today (24) at the Polduwa Junction.

SJB General Secretary Ranjith Madduma Bandara said the demonstration is being held in opposition to the proposed 22nd Amendment, which the party claims could pave the way for an authoritarian path. He also called on the public to join the protest.

The demonstration has resulted in traffic congestion being reported in the surrounding areas, including roads leading towards Parliament and the Polduwa Junction.
