ITAK Seeks Indian and U.S. Support to Save Sivarasa Anojan from Death Penalty in Saudi Arabia

Members of Parliament from the Ilankai Tamil Arasu Katchi (ITAK) today met Indian High Commissioner Santosh Jha and Anthony V. Pirnot, Political and Economic Counsellor at the U.S. Embassy in Sri Lanka, as part of continuing efforts to secure the release of Sivarasa Anojan, who is facing the death penalty in Saudi Arabia.

The meetings were held following a decision taken by the ITAK Parliamentary Group. ITAK Parliamentary Group Leader Shanakiyan Rasamanickam, together with other ITAK Members of Parliament, participated in the discussions.

On behalf of Sivarasa Anojan’s family, the MPs briefed the diplomats on the facts and circumstances of the case known to them and requested their support and assistance in efforts to secure his release and save his life.

The discussions also focused on possible diplomatic avenues that could be pursued, including engagement with the relevant authorities and other parties who may be in a position to assist.

The ITAK MPs stressed the urgency of the situation and the importance of coordinated diplomatic engagement, given the grave consequences facing Anojan.

ITAK will continue engaging with relevant diplomatic missions and other parties in its efforts to secure Sivarasa Anojan’s release and save his life.
