Underworld figure Ranjith Kumara, alias “Konda Ranji,” who was deported to Sri Lanka from Dubai, was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) upon arrival at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) this morning (09), police stated.
Konda Ranji arrived in Sri Lanka at around 7.50 a.m. today and was taken into custody by CID officers shortly after landing.
He had been arrested by Dubai authorities on January 9 while allegedly attempting to flee to Italy. His wife and children, who were detained along with him at the time, were subsequently released.
Authorities allege that Konda Ranji is linked to organised criminal activities and is wanted in connection with several criminal investigations.
He is also reportedly wanted over the murder of the coordinating secretary to former Minister Mangala Samaraweera.
Konda Ranji is among several Sri Lankan underworld figures who have been arrested by authorities in Dubai.
The CID is conducting further investigations into his alleged involvement in criminal activities.
He is expected to be produced before court following the completion of preliminary investigations.
