Nepal Tourism Suffers Major Blow in Wake of Deadly Unrest

Kathmandu – Recent violent protests in Nepal have severely impacted the country's vital tourism industry, with foreign media reporting a 30 percent drop in tourist arrivals due to the prevailing situation.

The downturn comes during what is typically a peak season for tourism in Nepal, a period that usually sees a high influx of visitors, especially those arriving for mountaineering expeditions.

However, the recent unrest has left popular tourist areas deserted. Reports indicate that in the capital, Kathmandu, the usually bustling Thamel tourist zone—a hub filled with hotels, shops, and restaurants—has fallen quiet, with businesses empty of visitors.

The tourism decline follows a period of violent protests across the country that resulted in the deaths of 72 people and left more than 2,000 others injured, creating an atmosphere of instability that has deterred international travelers.
