The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) says fuel prices can be maintained at their current levels until the end of October, while assuring that there is no issue with its fuel stocks.
CPC Chairman D.J. Rajakaruna said the corporation was also confident of maintaining the current fuel price and supply situation over the next three months, provided there were no major unforeseen disruptions.
He said temporary shortages could occur in some areas due to other fuel companies reducing supplies to their filling stations.
According to Rajakaruna, around 62 areas where such shortages could potentially occur were identified about three weeks ago, and arrangements have since been made with the relevant companies to increase fuel supplies to those locations.
He urged motorists not to panic or form unnecessary queues at filling stations, stressing that there was no reason to expect a major nationwide fuel shortage.
Motorists encountering shortages or queues at filling stations operated by other companies were advised to use the nearest CPC filling station.
Rajakaruna said CPC reviews its fuel stocks every Tuesday and that there were currently no concerns over available reserves.
He added that arrangements had been made to expedite two additional fuel shipments and import quantities above the country’s requirement for October as a precautionary measure.
