Matara, Sri Lanka - A confrontation between second-year and third-year undergraduates at the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Ruhuna, has led to the temporary removal of both student batches from the faculty premises, following an escalation of a dispute over a cricket match.
The initial disagreement reportedly began yesterday (October 19) over a score tally during a cricket match. While the matter was temporarily resolved yesterday, tensions flared up again today (October 20), resulting in a physical clash between the two groups.
The renewed altercation resulted in injuries to approximately six students.
In response to the escalating violence, the university administration swiftly intervened and directed the second and third-year students to temporarily vacate the faculty premises to ensure campus safety and restore order.
The students involved in the clash have been brought to the Kamburupitiya Police Station, where official investigations into the incident are currently ongoing. The university is expected to conduct an internal inquiry once the police investigation concludes. (NewsCenter)
