
Necessary steps toward the rapid delivery of petroleum products to Sri Lanka will be taken, Russian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrey Rudenko promised.
During a meeting with Foreign Affairs Minister Vijitha Herath at the Ministry yesterday, Rudenko committed to directing Russian investors toward local opportunities and increasing tourist arrivals. An agreement was reached to provide compensation to the families of Sri Lankan security personnel who died while in Russia.
Concurrently, Colombo and Moscow concluded the eleventh round of bilateral political consultations with a shared goal to strengthen energy and trade cooperation. Discussions centred on securing future supplies of petroleum, coal, and fertiliser.
Officials established new benchmarks for bilateral trade and explored expanded engagement in education, defence, and tourism.
In anticipation of the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2027, both nations planned high-level visits to commemorate the milestone.
