Suspect Killed in Daylight Shooting Near Wennappuwa Police

Wennappuwa, Sri Lanka — A man was shot dead in a daylight attack near the Wennappuwa police station today, August 31, around 10:30 a.m.

The victim was traveling on a motorcycle with another individual when a group in a car first caused them to crash. The assailants then attacked both men with a sharp weapon and opened fire.

One of the men on the motorcycle managed to escape with injuries, while the other was fatally shot.

Police stated that the deceased was on his way back after signing in at the Wennappuwa police station for a High Court case. According to authorities, a verdict in his case was scheduled to be delivered on September 9, 2025.

Initial investigations suggest the shooting was carried out with a revolver-type firearm.
