Watch: ‘Backhoe Saman’ refuses to pay final respects to mother?

Notorious underworld figure Nirmala Prasanga also known as ‘Backhoe Saman’, who is being held at the Welisara High-Security Prison, has reportedly refused to pay his final respects to his deceased mother, prison sources said.

The reason for this decision has not yet been revealed.

Backhoe Saman's mother was shot dead by an unidentified gunman in Middeniya on August 12, 2026.

Police sources reportedly suspect that the murder was orchestrated by ‘Karandeniya Sudda’, and that it was carried out in retaliation for the killing of ‘Ganemulla Sanjeewa’.

Police sources further said that Backhoe Saman’s mother had previously been threatened by ‘Karandeniya Sudda’ not to visit the prison to check on her son’s well-being.

However, she had disregarded the threat and continued to visit her son at the prison, which is also believed to be among the reasons behind her murder.
