An investigation initiated on IGP's instructions regarding a video circulating on social media

An investigation has been initiated on the instructions of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) regarding a video circulating on social media concerning an incident at the Ambalangoda Police Station.

According to the police, the investigation is being conducted under the supervision of the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the Galle Division, led by a senior police officer stationed outside the Elpitiya Police Division, which oversees Ambalangoda.

The video on social media shows an individual behaving rowdily inside the police station, claiming that police officers had assaulted his father.

Police stated that the elderly man identified as the father in the video was arrested on the night of the 24th while roaming the road in an intoxicated and unruly manner, and was subsequently brought to the Ambalangoda Police Station.

The police further mentioned that the suspect attempted to flee at the time of his arrest, fell down during the escape attempt, and sustained injuries— bleeding marks of which are visible in the video.

However, Ambalangoda police officers admitted the individual to the Balapitiya Hospital on the 25th. Following an examination by the Judicial Medical Officer (JMO), he was produced before the Balapitiya Additional Magistrate, who ordered his release on bail.
