NEW DELHI: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has delivered a monumental financial reward to the victorious Indian women’s cricket team, announcing a record-breaking ₹51 crore (Rs 510 million) cash prize following their triumph at the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 on Sunday in Navi Mumbai.
This colossal prize money, which covers the players, coaching staff, and support staff, is one of the most significant monetary rewards ever announced in Indian sporting history. The BCCI’s reward comes in addition to the ICC's substantial prize money of USD 4.48 million awarded for winning the tournament.
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia, speaking to ANI, hailed the victory as a transformative moment that mirrors the historical impact of the 1983 Men’s World Cup win.
"In 1983, Kapil Dev brought about a new era and encouragement in cricket by making India win the World Cup. The same excitement and encouragement has been introduced by the women today. [Captain's Name] and her team have not just won the trophy today; they have won the hearts of all Indians," Saikia stated.
He emphasized that the victory would serve as a monumental inspiration for the "next generation of women cricketers," marking a decisive step forward for gender equality in the sport.
Saikia also specifically credited ICC Chairman and former BCCI secretary, Jay Shah, for fostering the environment that made such a reward possible.
"Since Jay Shah took charge of the BCCI, he has brought about many transformations in women’s cricket. Pay parity was addressed. Last month, ICC Chairman Jay Shah increased women’s prize money by 300 percent—from $2.88 million to $14 million (total pool)," Saikia added, linking the historic win to the sustained push for equal recognition and resources.
The historic prize celebrates India’s greatest moment in women's cricket, ensuring the team's achievement is recognized with unparalleled financial backing. (NewsCenter)
