"Kavantissa, known as one of the largest and tallest wild tuskers in Sri Lanka, passed away a short while ago.
The tusker, who had been unwell, was found fallen this morning in the Siyambalangamuwa area.
Issues regarding the health of this elephant, who roamed the Galgamuwa area, had arisen recently. Treatments were initiated on the afternoon of the 24th for an injury to his front right leg, reportedly caused by a gunshot wound.
Veterinary teams stated that although the leg wound had healed to some extent, other symptoms, including a refusal to eat, were observed in the tusker over the past few days."
