COLOMBO – The official Gazette notification detailing the government's first cabinet reshuffle has been released, confirming significant changes to ministerial and deputy ministerial portfolios. The Gazette, issued yesterday (October 11) by Presidential Secretary Dr. N.S. Kumanayake, formalizes the appointments made at the President's Office on October 10th.
The reshuffle saw three new Cabinet Ministers and ten new Deputy Ministers sworn in before the President.
The reshuffle focused on reallocating key infrastructure and development ministries:
Bimal Ratnayake: Formerly the Minister of Transport, Highways, Ports, and Civil Aviation, Mr. Ratnayake has had Ports and Civil Aviation removed from his portfolio. In their place, he gains the Ministry of Urban Development. He was sworn in for the revised post of Minister of Transport, Highways, and Urban Development.
Anura Karunathilaka: The Ports and Civil Aviation portfolios, which were removed from Mr. Ratnayake, have been assigned to Anura Karunathilaka. Previously the Minister of Urban Development, Construction, and Housing, Mr. Karunathilaka was sworn in as the Minister of Ports and Civil Aviation.
Dr. H.M. Susil Ranasinghe: The Construction and Housing portfolio, which was removed from Mr. Karunathilaka, has been handed to Dr. H.M. Susil Ranasinghe. Dr. Ranasinghe, who previously served as the Deputy Minister of Lands and Irrigation, was elevated to a Cabinet rank and sworn in as the Minister of Housing, Construction, and Water Supply.
The Gazette also formalized the appointment of ten new Deputy Ministers. Notably, several individuals who had not previously held a ministry post were sworn in as Deputy Ministers, including:
