Sagara Kariyawasam taken to Kaduwela Court following arrest

Attorney-at-Law Sagara Kariyawasam, the General Secretary of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), who was arrested by the Central Criminal Investigation Bureau (CCIB) earlier today (10), is currently being taken to the Kaduwela Magistrate’s Court.

Kariyawasam arrived at the Central Criminal Investigation Bureau this morning to record a statement in connection with an investigation into a statement he allegedly made concerning the Inspector General of Police.

The Central Criminal Investigation Bureau had launched an investigation into the statement on the instructions of the Inspector General of Police.

Kariyawasam was subsequently arrested on allegations of making death threats against the Inspector General of Police and making statements intended to bring the President into public disrepute.
