The Supreme Court has concluded hearings on the fundamental rights petition filed by former Eastern Province Chief Minister Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan, alias Pillayan, challenging his arrest and detention under the Prevention of Terrorism Act.
Oral submissions in the case were completed today (02), after which the Court announced that the delivery of its judgment would be postponed.
In April 2026, Pillayan was remanded by the Mount Lavinia Magistrate’s Court pending the Attorney General’s recommendations over investigations into the 2006 disappearance of an Eastern Province Vice Chancellor.
