
A three-wheeler suspected to have been used in carrying out the grenade attack on a residence in Dehiwala, which resulted in the death of two children, has been found abandoned in the Ihala Bope area of Padukka.
An unidentified individual had carried out the hand grenade attack on the residence located in the Sirisangabo Mawatha in Dehiwala at around 3:00 a.m. today (11).
CCTV footage have captured the suspect arriving at the scene in a three-wheeler.
According to police, the suspect had knocked on the front door of the residence and threw a hand grenade inside after the occupants opened the door.
Two children, aged 11 and 17, who were sleeping inside the house, sustained serious injuries in the incident and later succumbed to their injuries after being admitted to hospital.
Their 55-year-old father also sustained an injury to his leg in the blast.
However, police stated that the injured man has no previous criminal charges against him.
A magisterial inquiry of the scene was conducted this morning.
The motive behind the attack has not yet been established, while three police teams are conducting further investigations to identify and arrest the suspects.
