The Meteorological Department states that favorable atmospheric conditions exist for thundershowers in many parts of the island today (21), and as a result, an increase in the number of showers is expected.
Accordingly, showers or thundershowers may occur at times in the Northern, North-Central, Eastern, Uva and Central provinces and in the Hambantota district.
Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in other areas after 1 p.m.
Similarly, in the Central, Uva and Sabaragamuwa provinces, heavy showers of more than 100 mm may be expected at some places in the Batticaloa, Ampara and Polonnaruwa districts, the Meteorological Department said.
Furthermore, some places in other areas may experience fairly heavy showers of more than 75 mm.
Meanwhile, foggy conditions may prevail at some places in the Central and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in the Galle, Matara and Kalutara districts during the early hours of the morning.
The Department urges the public to take necessary measures to minimize the risks of temporary strong winds and lightning that may occur with thundershowers.
